Colin A. Weil As Chief Operating Officer, Colin A. Weil brings to MZA Events nearly 20 years of business, marketing, and communications experience and an extensive history of social activism. His dynamic leadership and creative zeal, coupled with his business acumen, deliver a potent combination of skills essential to his work helping MZA further build on its enormous successes in fundraising event management. After graduating with a BA in History of Art and Architecture from Yale University, Colin began his career in the world of finance and marketing at Citibank and then ITT Financial. His professional experience includes producing major event-marketing programs for Lucent Technologies, The Walt Disney Company, MTV Networks, Sony Music, and others. In 2001, Colin looked to combine his communications skills and activist ambitions as a documentary filmmaker. During the time he was producing corporate films for Washington Mutual and the New York Department of Health, among others, he also co-produced the critically acclaimed documentary, “Rock Bottom – Gay Men & Meth,” which has been hailed by activists, educators, and The New York Times as an important prevention tool. In addition, he wrote and directed the Look/Listen/Love/Respect TV PSA starring Whoopi Goldberg, Amanda Peet, Rosie Perez, and Susan Sarandon. The provocative 8-spot campaign delivers honest and compassionate messages of love and respect while addressing critical issues of safer sex and crystal meth use. Colin’s relationship with MZA goes back nearly two decades and more than 30 campaigns. He walked in his first AIDS Walk New York in 1989 and immediately became a regular, and then key, volunteer for the AIDS Walk and AIDS Dance-a-thon. Colin joined the staff of AIDS Walk San Francisco as a teams coordinator in 1992, then worked with the Entertainment department on campaigns in New York, L.A., San Francisco, and Denver throughout the ’90s. Even as his business career flourished, Colin continued volunteering in many different capacities for AIDS Walk New York. A native New Yorker, Colin is excited to explore the fun and the sun of L.A. on his rollerblades. He is also an avid tennis player and enjoys skiing on liquid and frozen water. At heart, like many MZA staffers, Colin is a frustrated Broadway baby, so don’t be surprised to find him in front of a Karaoke mic. |
